Fanciful Woods

In winter and spring 2024 I became entranced with Birch Trees and the way the low winter light illuminated the red bark of the trees to create a pink haze around the wood. Such colour is also reminiscent of cherry blossom. I found as I worked in my studio my drawings of birch trees became infused with the cherry blossoms I passed every day. The resulting paintings are fanciful based more on my sense of place than of a specific landscape.
